'Cos Every Litter Bit Hurts.

Our Lean Mean Clean Machine Springs Into Action!

On Saturday April 23rd, Courtown Woodland Alliance kicked off its Spring season of environmental action with a blitz on litter and junk as part of the National Spring Clean '22 effort.

Our group’s first major habitat clean-up effort of the year tackled Courtown Woods, the Courtown/Kiltennel Walking trail and the mucky unloved roadside ditches adjoining the woods on the Courtown/Ballymoney Road.

Rushing straight from work to join in the voluntary effort was CWA volunteer Lorraine O Dwyer from Gallivanting Tours who was happy to load up her car with bags of collected rubbish as well as entertain other volunteers with fascinating information about Courtown’s valuable native Woodland plants.

"Our scenic natural resources in Courtown need constant nurturing, so I’m excited to be part of CWA’s practical mission to protect the area’s beautiful natural heritage”.

Thanking all those who volunteered on the day, CWA organiser Deirdre Robinson gave full credit for the success of the event to CWA members, "whose strong sense of community got them out and working together on a gusty day to beautify Courtown". She also advised that the Spring Clean-up was the first of many community meet-ups to protect and improve the area’s all-important outdoor amenities:

“The recent increased popularity in outdoor activities has led to the rediscovery of Courtown as an ecological and recreational gem and garnered renewed public appreciation for our unique coastal woodland. As a community we’re looking forward to a productive year of further essential activities including invasive species removal and native replanting. "

CWA is 100% volunteer led. If you fancy joining in the fun, please contact us at info@courtownwoodland.com
